While the costs for the introduction and development of information technology in
Greek public hospitals are increasing continuously, the impact of these investments
has not been studied thoroughly. Therefore, a rigorous evaluation of the use of IT in
the Greek healthcare sector is recommended because of its great importance for both
decision makers and users of future information systems (Rigby, 2001). Indicatively, in
a relevant study, Wyatt and Wyatt (2003) mentioned that the evaluation of hospital
information systems is necessary as it will contribute to:
. the greatest acceptance by users;
. the invention of new architectures of development, particular to hospitals;
. the avoidance of negative effects on the processes of care provided to patients; and
. the redesign of a great number of activities in the internal structure of hospitals.
