Lesson ADT 79
Task: Use toilet paper.
Prerequisites: UTI 1, ADT 3, ADT 77, COG 6, COG 11
Concept: Based on the student's age, gender, and physical abilities, the skill involved in performing the actual outcome of this task can be variable. A generic task analysis is listed that may need variation according to the student. The prerequisites for this task do not include successfUl toileting, and this sometimes is preferred as a beginning step in a toileting program. Other than the beginning steps, the best teachable mo-ment is during actual toilet use.
Behavioral Objective: The student will use toilet paper to complete the toileting process to a 90% accuracy level over 20 trials.
Materials: Toilet paper and a toilet.
Task Analysis:
1. Physically assist the student in obtaining an adequate amount of toilet paper from the dispenser that is likely to be used. If difficulties are encountered, a teaching tool of a holder on a board can be used, but the real item is preferred.
2. Physically assist the student in arranging or folding the paper into a form that would be functional for the needed action.
3. Guide the student through the action of wiping, as appropriate.
4. Guide the student through the action of dropping the paper into the toilet.
5. Reduce physical guidance to step-by-step verbal commands.
6. Reduce verbal prompting to a total-task verbal request.
7. Attempt to reduce all prompting and reinforce independent behavior until the objective is met.
