Bush et al. [21] undertake an LCA assessment of micro-wind and solar PV technologies in the UK. In their hybrid input–output approach, they combine technological data (i.e. a “bottom-up” assessment) with an input–output system of interactions between production sectors, to account for upstream carbon emissions in the production process. Further, they are able to then demonstrate the importance of wind speed and irradiance on the carbon payback period for both technologies.
