This research studies the cores construct of audit competency derived from three main theories videlicet
self-efficacy theory, learning theory, and theory of inspired confidence. In particular, there is one of main
theory that defines the meaning and the dimensions of audit competency as self-efficacy theory. Similarly,
learning theory is used to clearly describe the associations between audit competency and the
antecedents. Additionally, theory of inspired confidence is used to demonstrate the consequences and
moderating effect that influence the relationships in this research.
2.1 Audit Competency of Knowledge
Audit knowledge refers to auditors’ insight of accounting, auditing, and business environment that is
specific to provide a framework for evaluating and incorporating new experience and information to mix of
framed experience, values, contextual information, and expert (Choo and others, 2007; Low, 2004).
Previous studies (Choo and others, 2007; Backer, 1993; Low, 2004) indicated that auditors who perform
auditing under base line of professional have utilized knowledge to provide effectiveness audit judgment
and efficiency audit practice through audit report quality so as to increase audit performance. Based on
previous literature, the related hypotheses are postulated as follows:
Hypothesis 1a: The higher the audit knowledge is, the more likely that auditors will gain greater
effectiveness audit judgment.
Hypothesis 1b: The higher the audit knowledge is, the more likely that auditors will gain greater
efficiency audit practice.
