Midfield: It wasn't just in defence where Hull impressed against Leicester. Midfielder Robert Snodgrass provided the winning goal, a strike Mariner describes as "a cracking finish," while Nicol was also appreciative, labelling his fellow Scot a "match-winner."
Striker: Liverpool have a lot of attacking talent but Philippe Coutinho is arguably the best of the lot and put in "a special performance," according to Nicol, scoring two goals in the 4-3 win at Arsenal. Mariner agrees, calling him "the difference-maker" and pronouncing his free kick as the goal of the opening weekend.
Striker: Salomon Rondon was everything a Tony Pulis side looks for in a striker, an "old fashioned No. 9," as Nicol puts it. The West Brom front man was strong, hardworking and created chances for his teammates as well as making what turned out to be the vital contribution in the Baggies' 1-0 win against Crystal Palace. "A constant threat," Mariner adds.
Striker: Shortly after forcing Bournemouth goalkeeper Artur Boruc into a diving save from a free kick, Zlatan Ibrahimovic marked his Premier League debut with an excellent strike from distance that put United three goals ahead and ultimately sealed a 3-1 win. "More to come," is Marcotti's summary, while Mariner notes: "He worked hard out of possession." That's two goals in as many games for the big Swede, who is clearly enjoying himself in the Premier League.
