In the present study, no attempt was
made to check the profiles of the isolates in cases with
simultaneous uterine infection and bursal contamination
because finding identical strains would still not indicate
whether the bacteria ascended or descended. After all, a
similar observation was made in a study of dogs with
chronic otitis: the same isolates were found in the horizontal
ear canal and in the middle ear in only 10% of the
cases [25], even though canine otitis media is believed to be
a direct extension of otitis externa.
