In this study the use of microwave energy to assist
extraction of triterpenoid saponins from Ganoderma atrum
is presented. It is compared with several conventional
extraction methods and the effects of various experimental
conditions on the extraction yield are also studied (irradiation
time, temperature, extractant volume, etc.) in order to
determine the optimum extraction conditions. Furthermore,
the colorimetric method with vanillin–acetic acid
system is used for the quantification of triterpenoid saponins,
which has been reported to be a simple, quick and
accurate method (Dong & Gu, 2001; Gao & Wang,
2001). Until now, the extraction of triterpenoid saponins
from Ganoderma atrum with MAE method has not been
reported. The purpose of this study is to develop a novel
MAE method, and to evaluate MAE and conventional
extraction techniques for the extraction of triterpenoid saponins
from Ganoderma atrum.
