South Korea is a country in East Asia, located on the southern portion of the Korean Peninsula. Its capital is Seoul. South Korea lies in a temperate climate region with a predominantly mountainous terrain. Its territory covers a total area of 38,375 square miles and has a population of 50 million people. Confucianism, shamanism (traditional spirit worship), Christianity, Buddhism and Chondokyo (Religion of the Heavenly Way) are the religions followed in South Korea. Korea divided into two political entities in 1948: North Korea and South Korea.
