Global awareness about the environment and climate change has begun to rise in recent years. The current green movement is not only aimed to protect the natural resources, but also implemented to the efficiency of energy use and minimized to environmental damage. It is very beneficial for developing countries, especially Indonesia, which is conducting the equitable and sustainable development. The Styrofoam waste is difficult to disentangle. Styrofoam packaging is often seen as electronic goods. Increasing the value of Styrofoam as a material for artificial replacement
for coarse aggregate in this trial will help to reduce the environmental problems associated with waste Styrofoam. Using Styrofoam in concrete will produce lightweight aerated concrete (light aerate concrete) because it has a very small density ranged between 13-16 kg/m3
and Styrofoam considered airspaces. Research that had been done in 2008 concluded that the unit weight of concrete without addition of Styrofoam (0%) is 10% or 2148.32 kg/m3 and Styrofoam composition in concrete addition, the unit weight of the concrete will decrease at about 81.08 kg/m3 or 4.01% .
