The Motozintla basin has an
E–W orientation and extends for 12 km from Xelajú Grande village in
the west, to Mazapa de Madero village in the east. The alluvial plain is
up to 120-mwide, although it is wider (up to 300 m) where higher overhanging
terraces occur. The alluvial plain of Motozintla corresponds to
a low energy cumulative type C plain
