a japanese fashion label has partnered with the kamine zoo in hitachi city for the creation of a denim collection, whose ‘worn-out’ style is actually created by the tigers, lions and bears which live at the zoo. workers at the wildlife park wrapped long sheets of denim material around car tires and bundled them in small balls, which they then placed into the habitats where the creatures reside. biting, tearing and scratching at their new fabric toys, the fearsome beasts bear their marks on the blue textiles, scarring and shredding them into tattered segments. finally, the ‘zoo jeans’ are sewn together from the semi-eaten pieces, forming a completely singular pair of legwear. the collection will be auctioned off to encourage the environmental protection of animals, and the revenues will be donated to both the zoo and the world wildlife fund.
