The French artist Christian Guérny, who goes by his pseudonym C215, is one of the most respected and prolific street artists internationally.
Dubbed as ‘France’s answer to Banksy’ by art critics and fans, his lengthy career has so far spanned over two decades and had a huge impact on the evolution of street art.
He has travelled across the globe producing his intricate stencil work in cities and town, becoming very much part of the community while he works. Several of his works on the streets are portraits of local people from locations such as Barcelona, Amsterdam, London, Paris and Rome who he believes to have a real connection with their cultural surroundings, paying homage to the life and soul of the urban jungle.
Referring to dialogue from art history, Christian strongly believes that his iconic imagery can physically change not only the aesthetics of the city but also the daily life of the people living within. The artists latest book publication, C215 Street Art, exclusive to Signal Gallery, was in high demand at the launch in April 2012 and sold out within a couple of hours.
C215 has also had a very successful gallery career, with three solo shows at Signal and also across Europe and the USA. Plans are being made for further appearances at Signal in 2013.
