Chemical composition of the ensiling materials
Chemical compositions of PV and CS are shown in Table
1. Fresh PV had high moisture and low WSC content.
In general, adequate moisture (650-750 g kg-1 FW) (Men
2007) and abundant WSC content (>20-30 g kg-1 FW)
(Li 2007) are vital for producing good quality silages.
The results indicated that PV can not meet the requirements
obviously. However, PV contained high CP, low
NDF, and high CA. As a common crop for ensiling, CS
contains adequate moisture and WSC content.
With high content of WSC and CP, and low content
of NDF and ADF, wheat bran was served as an additive
for providing fermentation substrate and improving
nutritional quality of silages.
