Conclusion
The analysis using RAPD and ISSR markers in M. nemurus
showed significant results. The study suggests that the four
subpopulations of this species namely SK, CH, RB and KK
have high levels of genetic variation and genetic differentiation.
The isolation by geographic barrier is likely to be
the factor that contributes to the restricted gene flow
between the populations. UPGMA dendrograms and the
subpopulation-specific SCAR marker indicate the different
genetic information of SK from the other three subpopulations.
The species-specific SCAR marker could distinguish
M. nemurus from the other species whose fries have
similar morphology. The information generated will be
useful for preservation of genetic diversity, fish population
identification, selection of stock in breeding programs and
other development programs of M. nemurus in Thailand in
the future.
