ABSTRACT. With the advent of globalization, the trackrecord of multinational corporations (MNCs) has beenmixed at best in relation to their Corporate SocialResponsibility (CSR) involvement in developing coun-tries. This article attempts to cross-fertilize insights fromthe business-society and international business politicalbehavior literature streams to identify relevant dimensionsand contingencies that can be used to analyze the CSR of MNCs in developing countries and the extent of stan-dardization or localization of their strategies. The articlemakes use of the new theoretical framework in thecontext of an interpretive research methodology toexamine the CSR orientations of a sample of MNCsubsidiaries in Lebanon. The findings reveal patterns of global CSR being diffused to developing countries, butalso being diluted along the way in view of specificsubsidiary endowments and host market characteristics.
