Plants contain a large and diverse number of hydrophobic
and hydrophilic components that are soluble in
neutral organic solvents or water; which are generally
called extractives. These extractive phenolic compounds
are among simple phenols, flavonoids, flavonols and
terpenes and have pharmacologically useful antioxidant
properties. The radical scavenging activity of the different
plant extracts, determined by DPPH and ABTS radicals
are shown in Table 4. The results showed that all studied
plants possessed antioxidant activity. The revelation of
this activity depended mainly on the extraction method
and the nature of the used solvent.
