Don Wai Floating Market was established in the reign of King Rama VI (1910-1925). The market is on the bank of Ta-Jeen river or also known as Nakhon Chai Si river which is located in Sam Pran District, NaKhon Pratom Province, Thailand.
The length of this floating market is 300 metres and also near Kong Ka Ram Don Wai Temple. It actually was not a floating market in the past because most stalls were on land, were the old wooden buildings and also were not famous. There are many seller sell the fresh food there. In that time that Thai’s economy was critical. Things and foods were so expensive so Thai people had to economise on costs and sought the cheap products.
In the period that the floating market has become popular, people came to this market to buy the fresh food, fruit and vegetables everyday by shipping. Due to building the road to Rai Khing temple through this area in 30 years ago, the popularity of this market has become decreased and people trended to buy foods and products at the other stalls because it is so much easier. Moreover, most sellers decided to move out from this area so Don Wai Floating Market was abandoned.
However, when Thairat newspaper team went to a roasted ducks shops called “Nai Nub” and published how tasty the roasted ducks are and what Don Wai Floating Market likes on the newspaper. After that Don Wai Floating market seems to born again. People came over this market to try their foods, have a look their products and spend their time with the old riverside lifestyle which is rare. When the sellers knew that the market has become popular again, they were back to open their stalls again.
