substantial fall in growth activity of the species and, as a result, a
fall in ET. In 2013, average 10-day ETc values were found to be
higher in the two vegetated units throughout both initial and crop
development stages (on average 1.4 mm/d for giant reed-unit and
1.5 mm/d for umbrella sedge-unit over the whole period). During
the mid-season stage, ETc values were, however, lower compared
to those of the previous year for both the vegetated units due to
different microclimate conditions and differing adaptation capacities of the species in the conservation of water.
