Vegetables and fruits are fully recognized for their benefits towards healthy living, especially for their ability
to prevent vitamin C and vitamin A deficiencies; it also reported to reduce the risk of several diseases. This
was aimed to determine the bacteriological quality of fruits and vegetables sold at Gomboru Market
Maiduguri Metropolis using standard method of collection and analysis. The result of this study indicates
that all the samples contained microbial load ranges between 5 x 103 and 3.7 x 104 cfu/ml, with sample B
having the highest bacterial count of 3.7 x 104cfu/ml and sample A have the lowest bacterial count of 5 x 103
cfu/ml, although, all the samples contained acceptable number of microbial load of 108 cfu/ml which is the
standard bacterial count recommended World Health Organization (WHO). Therefore, there is need to
safeguard the health of the final consumers by proper washing and disinfection of these products which are
consumed in their raw forms
