Conclusions
Offering lupins/triticale silage in combination with high quality grass silage (D-value greater than 700) at a ratio of
0.60 grass silage:0.40 LT1 or LT2 had no beneficial effect on animal performance, carcass characteristics or meat quality
parameters compared with high quality grass silage offered alone or in combination with maize silage. The lack of an effect
of lupins/triticale silage on animal performance therefore counteracts the potential benefits associated with lupins/triticale
silage, i.e. reduced input costs and impact on the environment through reduced fertiliser N inputs.
