America is a nation of immigrants, from the first "boat people," the Pilgrims, to the later
Cuban "ไปแสวง" (rafters). Americans are proud of their immigrant heritage and the freedom
and opportunity the nation has extended to generations of "huddled masses yearning to be
free"the words emblazoned upon the Statue of Liberty in New York's harbor. Today about
38 million people, or over 12 percent, of the U.S. population is foreign born.
