Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the world with an estimated 213,000 new
cases and 160,000 deaths in 2007 in the United States (1). Despite marked improvements in
understanding the molecular biology of cancer and in advances in diagnostics, surgery, and
chemotherapy the 5-year poor survival rate (<15%) has not changed substantially (1,2). New
approaches to the treatment and prevention of lung cancer are clearly indicated, but depend
greatly on a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms that control oncogenesis and
