All human beings run after happiness: good or bad people, young and old,
sinners and saints, rich and poor, students and teachers, farmers and businessmen.
Good people look for happiness in a right way by means of working hard and living
a moral life while bad people look for happiness by means of corruption, telling lies,
killing others, stealing, and all kinds of evil acts. However, in the end, you realize
that all direct their acts to one supreme motive, which is happiness. A person who
harms others, either in looking for wealth or in revenge, thinks of being happy after
he or she has accomplished this evil act. Even when a person commits suicide, he or
she commits its, not because he or she does not love life to a new life or doesn’t
like living, but to change his or her bitter life to a new life or to a peaceful and
permanent rest. That rest becomes happiness. Therefore, life is a journey to the
Summun Bonum, but be careful here. One should only seek happiness through a
moral life and not one of corruption.
So, what is the final end to all the human acts of a given individual?
What is the supreme motive for every human act? Mankind works for love,
material possessions, glory, power, money, and so forth. Can we say that this is the
supreme motive? No! All of these things are only ends and means, which lead only
to one ultimate end HAPPINESS.
