The currently available arrester models are not useful for all
types of overvoltage surges. Its inadequacy against VFTOs is
known to all. To meet the needs of equipment protection
against nanosecond surges, it becomes essential to formulate
new model or modify or innovate the present arrester model.
An attempt has been made to present the studies thus
performed to achieve this objective. The results of this study
will help to design a metal oxide arrester which will meet the
rigours of VFTOs effectively.
