4. Conclusions
The novel CS film was successful fabricated from cellulose sulfate
formulated with glycerol as plasticizer by casting method. The
homogenous, transparent and flexible CS film is an ideal substitution
of other cellulose-derivative films in food packaging because
they have similar microstructure, mechanical properties and water
barrier property. The maximum TS and EAB were 60 MPa and 42%,
respectively. The minimum WVP was 3.83 1011 g m1 s
1 Pa1
.
The mechanical properties such as TS and EAB, and water barrier
properties could be regulated as requirement by changing the MW
of CS and glycerol content. The application of CS film in coating of
bananas showed a prolonged shelf life. In general, films prepared
using CS showed potential applications in fruit coating, constant
soluble packaging and oily food packaging.
