Information specialists can play an important role and fulfil various functions in dynamic research environments (Mullins. 2012; Neal. 2009: Webb et al., 2007), yet, this study found that researchers are often unaware of the skills and expertise of information specialists. Efforts to raise awareness therefore need to include not only the market-ing of library products (e.g. databases), but also the expertise of information specialists in information seeking (e.g. systematic reviews) information organizing (e.g. research data management) and skills to enable access to information (e.g. non-print materials, grey literature, special collections, and archives) and preservation. By getting involved in their own research, information specialists will further be able to not only demonstrate more advanced research skills, but will also be able to engage with researchers on a higher level.
