Selecting students from dormitories in China helps increase validity and reliability of measurement compared to selecting students from classrooms. Generally speaking, selecting students for a survey from classrooms in China requires permissions from the instructors, at least. If a survey involves hundreds of students, permission is usually needed from the university administrators. A survey of students in the dormitories did not require any permission from authorities; only the permission of the participants was needed. In the dormitories, the students were less likely to be affected by group (class) pressure. Therefore, they were more likely to answer the questions independently. Also, because the university administration did not intervene in the survey, the participants were less likely to worry about disciplinary punishments by the University for answering sensitive questions.
