In sum, we suggest that organizational social capital can be measured based
on a 2 x 2 matrix: structural versus relational and internal versus external. We
also included human capital in the social capital category in the proposed model.
In the social capital literature the focus has been mainly on ties, that is, how
network members are connected, rather than nodes, that is, the characteristics of the members (Nahapiet & Ghoshal, 1988). However, the characteristics of nodes considerably influence the quality of networks. Thus, human capital, representing the characteristics of nodes, needs to be considered in the proposed model, for it to be compatible with existing models. Human capital, however, is not the focal point of this study.
