Do u think Gena is copying u by being so into philosophy now and also typing about all those concepts
I usually don't answer questions like this, but just to be fair to G, no! Not at all! I don't think an interest in philosophy is something you can copy— a passion for knowledge isn't anything you can steal from another person. I started with literary theory, and am only starting to expand into art / literary movements and relevant philosophical thoughts, and dabbling in other random bits of history and politics and the movements that make or define them. I haven't even touched analytic/Anglo-Saxon philosophy, and am mostly focusing on continental philosophy at the moment. So I'm honestly only at the starting line. Gena started with economics and economic theory, then branched into politics and philosophy, which is completely rational and logical. I can say we both have a common direction, in the sense that we both enjoy learning and reading purely because we believe there is so much we don't know, and so much left for us to know— so we try to take and absorb as much we can, and hopefully give back in one way or another in the future. We both want to teach the way we've been taught. I think she wants to speak to people, whereas I want to give something textual, and if I ever become capable enough, talk to curious students from time to time. Maybe she got into it a bit later, but I started relatively late too— I was very much moved by a friend who knows with great breadth and depth, then by the philosophers I read and read about. When she was first interested in fields beyond economics (are there really distinct fields?), I remember speaking to her about how romanticism laid the foundations of individualism, and how collectivism slowly receded into a sad egotism, and we spoke till 3 or 4am about liberalism and literature, art and music. We talked about transcendentalism, reflexivity, economics, academia, and even love: our dreams and motivations. She is a very curious person. It is innate. Passions can drive other passions, and our long conversations do just that. I like to think we're both passionate people— maybe not as much as we like to be, but always trying. And it's how things work :3 We all move each other as a collective humanity— Gena teaches me to believe in the person I am, and not let doubts impede my pursuits. So maybe I'm copying her too! But really, it's a gift to move and be moved. We are only lucky. I learn from everyone around me. I feed on the texts and authors I've studied. And in that way, I'm a mirror of the values and passions around me that I believe in and subscribe to. That doesn't make me any less myself, maybe even better :3 (because how many of us can say we have something new to offer this vast, vast world?) (we can only try)
