Heezen et al 1955; Bruun, 1959; Knudsen, 1961; 1952; and Rowe, 1959) and particularly for seagrass by Moore(1963), Menzies et al. (1967). Roper and Brundage(1972) and Rowe and Menzies Along the upper slope and lower slope-upper rise off Carolina, a correla tion has been suggested between the concentration of organic detritus of Thalassia in suspension) and e distribution of suspension feeders such as the sea pen Pennatula oculeata and the glass sponges Euplectella suberea and Hyalonemo boreale in the same area(Rowe and Menzies, 1969). Roper and Brundage(1972) and N. Staresinic(G. T. Rowe, per sonal communication) found indication of holothurians being most numerous where Thalassia is abundant. However, until now no direct observations of utilization of seagrass as food in the deep sea had been provided.
