Between 1978 and 1995, Nordstrom opened 46 stores across the US. The size of the stores also saw an increase. While the average area of the stores was around 70,000 square feet during the 1970s, it was about 200,000 square feet by the mid 1990s. In 1993, a computer system was introduced all across Nordstrom stores. This helped in tracking inventory buying trends, the merchandise available in other Nordstrom stores, among other things.
