In thisworktheelectrochemicalbehaviorofsubstancesofenvironmentalconcern[bentazone,atrazine,
carbamazepine, phenytoinanditsmetabolite5-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-5-phenylhydantoin,HPPH]ona
glassy carbonworkingelectrode(Ag/AgClreferenceelectrode)wasstudiedwiththeaimtodevelopa
HPLC methodcoupledwithamperometricdetection.Constantpotential(DC),pulsedamperometric
detection modeswerestudied.Forthepulsedmode,severalwaveformsweresetandinvestigated.
Detection conditionswereoptimizedasafunctionofeluentpH.
In ordertoreducethelimitsofdetectionandtoanalyzenaturalwatersamples,aSPEprotocolwas
optimized tobecoupledtothedevelopedprocedure.Forthisaim, five sorbentsofdifferentphysico-
chemical characteristicsweretestedoptimizingarecoveryprocedureforeachofthecartridgeevaluated.
At theoptimizedSPEconditions,recoverieswereincludedintherange(R¼90.2–100.5%forallthe
analytes,withexcellentreproducibility(o%, n¼3). Themethoddetectionlimitsobtainedbypulsed
amperometry aftertheSPEprotocol(preconcentrationfactor100)were113ngL1 (0.47nmolL1),
67 ngL1 (0.25 nmolL1), 234ngL1 (1.1nmolL1), forbentazone,HPPHandcarbamazepine,respec-
tively.Robustnessofthemethodwasassessedforeachanalyteataconcentrationlevelcorrespondingto
