Why is Santa so fat?
Actually, the original images of Santa looked very normal.
Everything changed after the cartoonist
Thomas Nast published a book with many illustrations of a fat Santa in 1890.
Then coca cola advertising came to play a big role in shaping the jolly, rotund character.
Using Nast’s work as inspiration, Haddon Sundblom, Coca-Cola’s artist, illustrated Santa as a jovial, rosy-cheeked Coke-drinker with a big warm belly.
When Sundblom’s campaign was over, Santa’s big-belly image in a red robe had become popular all over the word.
