The audit results of the students and teachers all indicated common themes in relation to valuing the outside environment of the school and wanting to see changes in physical activity and healthy eating. Although only 9% of parents responded to the audit, their responses also reflected that of the students and staff in that the outside environment
is considered one of the most valued attributes, but they would like to see changes in the areas of sport and fitness. Parental involvement is a challenge that has been mentioned in other HPS research (11,12). Three school parents are involved in the HPS committee and newsletter items on HPS have been regularly included in the school newsletter, however
up to this point parental involvement has been
limited. It is envisaged that with the implementation
of the HPS plans in 2010, there will be more
opportunities for parents to participate. Some of
these plans include offering Pilates classes to
parents, and providing opportunities to be involved
in the canteen.
