Introduction. Chilli, a non-climacteric fruit (Capsicum annuum L.,family Solanaceae) deteriorates rapidly during postharvest handling and storage, leading to huge losses. Chilli commonly encounter postharvest problems, such as quality degradation, chilling injury when stored below 7 ℃ shrivelling associated with rapid loss of weight, begin to turn colour and deteriorate within a few days after harvest in ambient conditions. Some of the studies suggest that, the desired atmosphere for chillies is 0% CO2 and 3–5% O2 .However, research on the postharvest shelf-life extension of green chillies is scarce as most of the studies are focused only on bell peppers.
