The techniques and methods used in the processing of the image
did not affect the spatial resolution of the data. At the pixel size of
25 m, the length of the coastline extracted from the RADARSAT-1
SAR image was about 103.7 km from Penarek along the coastline
of Kuala Terrenganu to Marang. The verification of the extracted
line with field measurement of the shoreline was not possible due
to logistical constraints. A comparison was thus made with the
navigation map published in 2001 by the Royal Malaysian Navy
which showed general similarity in the curvature of the coastline.
Distortion and dissimilarity were however found in some locations.
By logical inference, the study concluded that where the extracted
coastline shows an extension seaward over the navigation map, it is
a new coastline detail revealed. Where however, the extracted line
falls short off the coastline on the map, it could possibly be the
result of coastline erosion that have taken place during the four
years since the publication of the navigation map
