The participants in the target vehicle were positioned in the
driver’s seat (front offside) with the seatbelt attached and were
asked to reposition the seat to replicate their normal, comfortable
driving position. The participants were asked to hold the steering
wheel and to make every effort to relax and not anticipate the
collision.
The movement of the participants in the target vehicle were
recorded by a video camera mounted on the opposite side window
and fitted with a lens of short focal length.
Occupant accelerations were measured by tri-axis accelerometers.
A 10g unit (Crossbow model CXL10Lp3) strapped across the
centre of the chest and a 25g unit held against the centre of the
forehead by elastic webbing (Crossbow model CXL25Lp3). Data
acquisition was made by the Vericom 3000DAQ mounted within
the vehicle using a sample rate of 100 Hz.
