Results obtained after applying the DeMSAR automatic processing scheme for ship detection are presented in Figures 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8. Figure 3 shows the edge detection results for each processing scheme. Figure 4 shows the estimated land masks for each processing scheme. Figure 5 shows the final estimated land mask after combining the estimated land masks for each processing scheme: white areas correspond to sea, black areas to land and grey areas to doubtful ones (sea areas with high wave fields or shadowed land areas). In Figure 6 the whole SLC amplitude image is presented, with two highlighted areas in which results from ship detection will be studied in detail. One of them is open sea, Figure 7, where two ships are detected with their associated wakes. The other one is a harbor area, Figure 8, where there are many different types of ships moored or with very low speed. DeMSAR default parameters used in the double parameter CFAR detector of automatic ship detection processing scheme consider medium and large ships and then small targets can not be detected [7]. Dotted line areas correspond to targets detected in doubtful areas. Figure 9 shows an example of the text file report generated by DeMSAR containing the statistics of the detected boats.
