Yes. I live in a village quite far from London, which is where I work. It's a lovely place to live – it's very peaceful. But of course working in the City means I don't get to spend a lot of time at home: I leave home early in the morning, and get back late at night.
Interviewer Do you think where you live affects your health?
Martin I suppose it does, yes. I don't think I get enough sleep, and it's quite stressful getting the train every morning. And when other people on the train have colds and flu, I nearly always get sick too.
Interviewer One more question. Would you like to live somewhere else?
Martin Er, no, I don't think so. My family are very happy where we are, we have a lovely house, and – well, it's definitely the best place for us.
Interview Two
Interviewer Excuse me. I'm asking people questions about where they live and how it affects their lifestyle. Could you answer a few questions?
Kathy Yes, no problem.
Interviewer First of all, what’s your name, please?
Kathy It’s Kathy.
Interviewer Do you work in the City, Kathy?
Kathy Yes, I do. I work in a bank.
Interviewer And where do you live?
Kathy I actually live in the City – just two stops away on the Tube. It only takes me a few minutes to get to work, so that's great. I can even walk to work when the weather's nice. There are some bad things about living in the City, though. I share a small apartment with two other girls, but it's still really expensive, so I hardly have any money for clothes or holidays or things like that. We also live on a busy road, so it's very noisy. I don't sleep very well a lot of the time, and I think I'm pretty nervous because of the noise. I grew up in the countryside, and it's a lot noisier and more stressful here. I feel tired pretty much all the time.
Interviewer So you think you'd be happier living somewhere else?
Kathy Well, yeah, I guess I would. But it's more important to me to live close to work. I really don't want to spend hours travelling to work every day, so I'm OK where I am for now.
Interview Three
Interviewer Excuse me. I'm interviewing people about where they live and how it affects their lifestyle. Can I ask you a few questions?
Tim Yes, that’s fine.
Interviewer What’s your name, please?
Tim It’s Tim.
Interviewer Do you work in the City, Tim?
Tim No, I don’t. I'm actually looking for work in London, so I'm staying with a friend at the moment.
Interviewer So you don't live in London?
Tim No…not yet anyway. I live in a small town near Oxford.
Interviewer How does living there affect your lifestyle?
Tim For me it's quite stressful because it's very difficult to find work. I’m doing temporary work at the moment, but I hope I’ll find a better job here in London. On the other hand, I like living in a smaller place because it's easier to meet people – and there are lots of sports teams. I play cricket and football, and it’s easier to join teams in a small town. I guess it's a healthier lifestyle in general.
Interviewer Well, thanks very much for your time.
Tim Not a problem.
