We assume that the concept of care culture implies
both a variable perspective and a metaphor perspective, as
described by Smircich (1983). From a variable perspective,
the care culture involves trying to discover how care is
accomplished and how it can be improved. Starting from a
variable perspective presupposes an ideal model of what
good care is. The metaphor perspective tries to address
what it means to care. This perspective seeks a more
general understanding of and reflection on care and how
the organization understands care. Perhaps the variable
perspective relates best to the concept ‘‘caring culture’’ and
the metaphor perspective relates best to the concept of
‘‘care culture’’
