Withdrawal behavior refers to employees’ lessening of active
participation in the organization. The relationship of POS to behavioral
intentions to leave (i.e., turnover intention) have been
assessed , as have actual withdrawal behaviors such as tardiness, absenteeism, and
voluntary turnover. Retention of organizational membership,
high attendance, and punctuality provide publicly identifiable
ways for employees to reciprocate POS. POS may also increase
affective organizational commitment, thereby lessening withdrawal
behavior.
