Course description:
In this course we will discuss topics in the area of international trade and trade policy. We will review traditional theories of international trade and recent developments in the economic literature based on the New new trade theory and on the analysis of FDI and global production chains. The discussion of trade policy will cover diverse topics such as export restrictions, the economics of trade agreements and the political economy of trade policy.
The suggested textbook for this course is: Feenstra, R. (2004). Advanced International Trade: Theory and Evidence, Princeton University Press
Students are expected to read selected articles (denoted by a *) and actively participate in class discussion. At the end of the semester, each student will deliver an oral presentation. This presentation should be a synthesis of several scientific articles on a given topic or, preferably, an in-depth discussion of a paper chosen in accordance with the instructor.
