Due to the complexity of protocol developments, a developer needs the equipment for gathering and analyzing the transmitted packets and the occurred events in the network, especially the network packet sniffer. This thesis presents the sniffing technique and methodology, the sniffer equipment designs according to 2.4 GHz IEEE 802.15.4 Standard, and the network analytic software. The microcontroller and FPGA chips are intended to use in this research for the increasing sniffing rate performance. The research experimental and demonstration are also discussed in the last chapter.
