In his last work in the Schloss Nymphenburg, Munich, the aging Zimmermann created an image of tremendous atmospheric power. It is finely balanced in terms not only in its composition but also in its coloration. This ceiling painting as a whole presents an allegory of flourishing welfare as a source of peaceful contentment, in harmony with the world of the gods. In the main view, the beautiful nymph appears in a charming Arcadian setting. She is enthroned on the steps of a garden architecture flanked on the right by an overgrown arched pergola and on the left by a fountain with a rocaille ornament.
The picture shows a detail of the ceiling fresco in the Steinerner Saal of Schloss Nymphenburg in Munich.
