mucosa inbroilerchickens.160-day-oldArborAcresmalebroilerswererandomlyallotted
to 4treatmentswith8replicatesof5chicksina2×2 factorialarrangement,evaluating
two levelsofMEF(0and10g/kg),andtwolevelsofECOS(0and300mg/kg).Theresults
showed thattherewasnosignificantinteractioneffectofMEFandECOSongrowthperfor-
mance, morphometricparametersofjejunumandileum,andmRNAexpressionofMUC2,
occludin andclaudin-1injejunumandileummucosa.Comparedwithothergroups,diet
supplemented withMEFsignificantlyimprovedFCRfromdays21to42,andsignificantly
improved ADGfromdays0to42.DietaryMEFsignificantlyincreasedvillusheightand
villus heighttocryptdepthratioinjejunumandileum,theconcentrationsofsIgA,IL-2,
IL-6, TNF-, andsignificantlyup-regulatedthegeneexpressionofsIgA,MUC2,occludin
and claudin-1injejunumandileummucosa.TheinteractioneffectofMEFandECOSwas
significant ontheconcentrationsofsIgA,IL-2,IL-6,TNF- in jejunummucosaonday42and
on theconcentrationsofsIgA,IL-2,TNF- in ileummucosaonday42.Theseresultsindi-
cated thatMEFcanimprovegrowthperformanceandenhanceintestinalbarrierfunctions
by improvingitsmorphologicaldevelopment,increasingcytokinelevel,andup-regulating
