Thailand is a society with high income and wealth disparity. At the bottom of the scale there is the majority of Thai uneducated or poorly-educated laborers. A minimum wage has been established. Just quite recently (beginning 2013) the minimum wage has been raised dramatically from around 175 baht per day to 300 baht per day. This was a promise of the Pheu Thai party, which to their great credit they kept. So the minumum wage stands at around 10 U.S. Dollar per day, and caused apparently a lot of headaches (if news headlines have to be believed) for Thai industrialists.
