The coefficients for the adjustment factors are 0.12, 0.24 and 0.12 respectively. While these are not as high so the
factors which make up extroversion and conscientiousness, they are higher than the factors which make up “agreeableness” and “intellectance”. The conclusion that leaders tend to have higher emotional adjustment is given explicit support by Lord et al. (1986),who reanalysed earlier leadership studies using metaanalysis. They found that there were clear correlations between leadership and intelligence (0.52), masculinity (0.34), conservatism (0.22) and emotional adjustment (0.21). Thus, it would seem that resistance to stress is a personality characteristic which moderately predisposes people to emerge as leaders.
