The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is a multi-criteria decision-making tool developed by Saaty. AHP is asystematic procedure to represent elements of any problem in a hierarchical way. Since decision-making in the field of strategy formulation have a great deal of uncertainty associated, managers should be able to express some degree of confidence in their judgments. The hierarchy is structured from the top, usually the main objectives set by management, through the intermediate levels to the lowest level, usually the alternatives. These judgments are then translated into numbers.
