A pregnant woman was tied up and beaten by a group of residents in a Zhejiang village over the weekend, after she'd reportedly stolen cash from one of their homes days before.
The unidentified woman, 28, had been caught pocketing 900 yuan from a resident's home in Hengshanqian village at the end of last month, SCMP reports, citing the Taizhou police.
She returned the money and villagers decided to let her off without calling the police because she was expecting a child. When she left town and came back 10 days later on Saturday, however, they seemingly had a change of heart and decided to deal out punishment in their own way.
Video footage circulating online shows the woman tied up to a large pole with her hands behind her back as a villager slaps her, kicks her and pulls her hair until she seemingly gets knocked unconscious.
The person responsible for attacking her is being detained for eight days and has been ordered to pay a fine of 300 yuan, Taizhou police said.
