Myanmar and former Yugoslavia established official diplomatic relations on 19th December 1950. The first Yugoslav Ambassador was appointed on 11th April 1952. Myanmar opened its Embassy at the present address of Kneza Milosa 72, 11000, in Belgrade in 1955 and H.E U Hla Maung was the First Myanmar Ambassador accredited to Yugoslavia who was appointed on 26th April 1955. The incumbent Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to the Republic of Serbia is H.E U Zaw Tun who presented his Letters of Credence to H.E Mr. Tomislav Nikolic , President of the Republic of Serbia on 19 th September 2012, becoming the 17th Head of Mission of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
From the period of Former the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) to its succeeded the Republic of Serbia, there were very close and warm relations between the two countries. Various exchange of goodwill visits occurred from 1955 to date. Many important bilateral agreements were signed and some more new are also to be signed soon. There are good cooperation in various sectors as well.
In view of the long-standing close and cordial bilateral relations between the countries since time immemorial, the government of the Republic of Serbia is planning to appoint H.E. Mr. Miodrag Nikolin as Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Serbia to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar soon , upgrading CDA level to Ambassadorial Level again.
